Walmart / Black Friday Central
Homepage Takeover
Black Friday is the Super Bowl Sunday of shopping, and Walmart is always in the game. For the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season, we bought high-impact homepage takeovers on AOL, Yahoo!, and MSN for Thanksgiving Day. Users were greeted with an expandable unit that did more than just highlight products and prices, it entertained them with fun demo videos, invited them to interact with the hosts, and counted down the seconds until doors opened.
Walmart's Black Friday Central gave consumers all the tools they needed to plan their (very) early morning shopping adventure and established Walmart as the undisputed leader of holiday shopping deals.
The homepage takeover appeared on Yahoo and AOL at 12:00 a.m. Black Friday. It featured a video player, countdown clock, store finder, in-store maps, downloadable coupons, live tweets, and a scrolling parade of holiday specials.
Instead of a typical product page with its list of features and specs, each Black Friday special had an accompanying video piece, which was triggered by clicking on the item.
We kept a live tally of the most-wanted items with a "Want It!" button which users clicked when they saw something they had to have under their tree.
