German School Brooklyn, founded in 2014, is the first German International School in NYC providing a K-12 bilingual education. When they outgrew their rental space in Prospect Heights, they bought a lot a few blocks away and hired an architectural firm. What they needed was money.
Shot by award-winning cinematographer Thorsten Thielow, I wrote, directed, produced, cast, edited, color graded, mixed, and finalized this little film for GSB's (Virtual) Summer Gala. We shot it in April 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York, while adhering to social distancing guidelines with masks, gloves, sanitizer, and a meticulous shooting schedule assuring that no more than two families were on location at a time.
We broadcast the film via Zoom during the gala, where GSB reached their fund-raising goal in only ten minutes—ultimately raising 50% more than that.
Yes, this is where my kids go to school. Can you spot them?
